Guess the Flag
A flag appears. Pick the country it belongs to. New flags every day, and endless play when you want more.
How to play
The game opens on Easy, where you see a flag and choose its country from four options. Each daily round has five flags, and you are rated out of ten on each. When you finish, you can copy your result and send it to a friend, because everyone gets the same five flags on the same day.
Once you are confident, switch to Medium, where the colours of a flag are scrambled and you swap them back, or Hard, where you paint a blank flag from memory. Both are harder than they sound, because they test whether you remember the order of the colours, not just the look of the whole.
Tips for guessing flags
- Start with the layout. Horizontal stripes, vertical stripes, a cross and a plain field with a disc are very different families.
- Check the order of the colours. France, Italy and Ireland all use vertical stripes, and only the order and the shades tell them apart.
- Look for pairs that are easy to confuse: Indonesia and Poland, Ireland and Ivory Coast, Romania and Chad.
- The Nordic flags all use an off-centre cross, so learn which colour is the field and which is the cross.
What counts as a flag here?
The flags in this game are simplified drawings made from flat colours and basic shapes: stripes, crosses, discs, triangles and stars. That means around fifty flags, and flags with detailed emblems or coats of arms, such as the flags of the United States or Brazil, are not included. It is a fast daily game, not a full list of every national flag.
Frequently asked questions
How many flags are in the game?
There are around fifty simplified flags made of stripes, crosses, discs, triangles and stars. Flags with detailed emblems are left out.
Is it free to play?
Yes. The game is free, needs no account and works on phones and computers.
Are the flags the same for everyone?
Yes. The daily flags are chosen from the date, so everyone gets the same puzzle and you can compare scores.
Can I play more than the daily puzzle?
Yes. Unlimited mode gives you flags in a row for as long as you keep getting them right, and your best streak is saved in your browser.
What is the difference between Easy, Medium and Hard?
Easy asks you to name the flag from four choices. Medium gives you a scrambled flag to fix by swapping colours. Hard gives you a blank flag and a palette to paint it from memory.
Do I need to sign up?
No. Your streaks and personal bests are stored in your own browser and never sent to a server.
